Scavenger

The buzzard does what it can
beaking the poison guts
of something car crushed
in the street.

Power lines sag over the alley
weighed on by thin ivy
hanging down like long hair
over a girlโ€™s face.

A dog pisses on the brick
of some old restaurant
where soup is brewed
in ten hour increments
resurrecting yesterdayโ€™s fish.

The D.J. In the pointy tower
spins only classics from old
decades back with dirt sneakers
resting on the soundboard.

A young man has his face
held in the gravel by a stranger
he has never said
a word to.

A little girl walks through
the automatic doors
out of the grocery store
and back into the parking lot.
She walks a while
until sheโ€™s sure she is alone
then bites the chocolate
that she stole
and letโ€™s it melt.
