Silver Light

Rumors float around out here
like moth wings
knife steel on the mill
spins into a hilt
hammer pounds
the metal thin
sparks fall around
the new born edge.

The river overflows
into the road
lights flash
people cannot get around.
The bridge bends
inward from the weight
of shadows peering
over the side.

Hooks on line
peak past
the surface of the water
suspended in the air
as if pulled on
by the sky.

The tension of braking
this beater truck I stole
from the dim part
of the scrapyard
now 400 miles
in one direction.
I swear Iโ€™ll make it
back to you
I swear.
