Old Chargers

Frayed chargers for outdated electronics
fill up drawers in everyone’s houses
whether they are opened in the light
or in the dark, with all the rest of forgotten
transitional periods in time.

I can’t find the medium position
between being careless and caring
so much I become an easy target.
We’ve been trained to identify
weirdness, for lack of a better term,
but only for the worst reasons
not the best.

Couldn’t these old chords be woven
together into some new serpent of power.
Teeth made of copper pulled gradually
out of the sleeves that keep the lightning
in the bottle where it hisses behind the glass
like trapped flies trying desperately to get out.
