Drain

A ball of black tangled plastic tubing
rolled down a hill and into a lake.
It was supposed to be hooked up to
a pump on the back of a truck with
a rusted exterior and antique plates.
A giant knot in the middle of the water
reminded them all of their stomachs
when trying to impress the unimpressable.
It rotated like a globe with a corrupt axis,
taking in so much heat it’s awkward shape
was slowly melting down.
A cloud of oily darkness spread from the
collapsing coil infusing itself into everything.
The most awake of the fish tried jumping
through to the surface, doing anything
not feel it in their gills.
There was no where left to go, and
nothing they could hope to know
to save them from those creatures
in the sky.
