Large piles of wood are burned
in the centers of parks on a yearly
basis, and everyone gathers around
to look at them while keeping warm
with their heat. No one thinks or sits,
but they stand in a doughnut shaped
mob and chant along with old songs that
the local bands are still taught in school.
The focus of the human eyes and mind
are inherently charged with a kind of power
we can all feel when someone angry digs their
gaze into our backs. It’s just a question of where
we want to put that energy and how it’s used.
We are currently starting large fires and whispering
bullshit to each other while we watch them burn out.
Maybe that’s all we’re doing on a larger scale too?
Just standing around and waiting for it all to be ash
and the party to end.
