A girl scrolls on her phone
in her dark room
and doesn’t sleep at all.
The next day at school
consists of making the opposite
of eye contact with anyone
and everyone.
I point this out not to say
it should be different.
The water mark
on the concrete stairs
leading down to the stream
presents a shadow
of a flood.
The last straw in a man’s life
breaks as he lands
punch after punch
into the face of some
stranger, screaming,
what could you possibly
mean by that?
Half the people in the crowd
are simply ordinary folks
sauntering off somewhere.
The others though
take way too long
when they wash their hands,
and always try to say
they understand.
The convenience store closes
early to a resounding
response of rage and disappointment.
The faceless masses swarm
and something breaks the glass
tripping the alarm, but no one hesitates.
They go in get what the need and leave,
and finally for once we all agree.
