Indigo Sight Line

In her sleep she finds herself afraid
of all the people in her dreams,
and when she wakes up she remembers
its the same across all forms
of conscious sight.
She can’t help but watch them chew
as they eat breakfast talking
with each bite about car accidents
they read about or politics
since its all so simple now.
She sees them on the practice
fields when walking to her car
and rolls her eyes at how they
think they’re all the best.
Teachers smoke along
the railing that’s between
the end of the parking lot
and the drop off on the hill
the school was built on.
She liked to watch the burning
ash they flicked away
with skill, and thought
of smoking some herself,
but knew what it would look like
so she didn’t.
