Apples rotting on their branches caught
up in swarms of gnats as thick as fog.
Dogs pissing in the stream until it’s yellow.
A long and angry distant stare across the field
at the approaching masses carrying their
fire in their hands.
The jellyfish snagged by aluminum cans,
bobbing in the waves, all rage
against the boundaries that contain them.
The massive hive minds in distant space
all watch us closely and pray we don’t
repeat their worst mistakes.
Bursting through the foaming surf
is the biggest narwhal ever seen,
impervious to pressure
and a millennia of hooks,
with lone command over the deepest of the deep.
