Used To Be Somewhere

Houses on the sides of hills,
you see them from the highway.
The apple trees are overflowing,
and the fruit just falls to rot
among the roots.
Garages full of people crowding
around one T.V. so they can see
a city team win just for them.
Whole towns age along
with their populations
and whenever someone dies
they feel it everywhere.
The station that once was
their gateway to the world
is now boarded up and covered
by the dark. The old man
who sold all the beer
just isn’t here, and it’s unclear
if he moved on or just retired
from the bar.
Still there is a glimmer
when the young ones come to visit
and they see how things can change
with passing time.
They always say their doing fine.
